2011 Information

The winners will be announced at the Emerging Voices 2011 reception, held on January 13th from 7-10pm.  All entries to be exhibited at the Museum of Design Atlanta from January 10-22, 2012.

DETAILS:

The Young Architects Forum of Atlanta invites emerging architects, landscape architects, urban designers, industrial designers and students to participate in the fourth annual 48HRS design competition. Intended to showcase the abilities of emerging designers and the value of good design to the greater public, the competition requires quick responses and fast, innovative thinking. The project brief, which will pose a design problem located in the city of Atlanta, remains confidential until the start of the competition. Once the brief is announced, participants have 48 hours to design and submit their entries.

FORMAT:
The competition is open to all types of designers (up to 10 years after licensure) and participants must register in advance. Registration numbers will be assigned upon payment of the entry fee of $35.00 (early) or $50.00 (late). On November 3rd, registrants will be provided with a "Program Packet" which includes all the details of the competition problem. A 24 hour period has been allotted for participants to submit questions on the website with all answers to be posted by the competition organizers prior to 5 pm on November 4th. Entries must then be completed and submitted in digital PDF format (one 24" x 36" board) before midnight on November 6th.

DATES:
Thursday, November 3rd - 5pm: Competition opens. Brief is uploaded to website. Questions period opens.

Friday, November 4th - 5pm: Questions period closes.

Sunday, November 6th - 11:59pm: All entries due.

All entries will be exhibited at the Museum of Design Atlanta during the EV11 show in January 2012!

1st Place - Task Chair by Ivan Allen ($1400 value)

2nd Place - 5'x7' rug, customized for the winner by FLOR ($150 value)

3rd place - Pair of Thorton Dial show catalogues from Bill Lowe Gallery ($130 value)

*All prizes must be picked up in person in Atlanta.

REGISTRATION:

For payment in US currency please use the AIA Atlanta website. For foreign currencies we are creating a Paypal account. Please email 48hours@yafatlanta.org to be sent an invoice so you can register.

     Early Registration, by 5pm November 3rd, fee 35$.

     Late registration, by 5pm November 4th, fee 50$.
